There is more to Spain than rows of beach pads in busy coastal resorts. Meet one British owner who headed into the countryside and opted for a rustic bolthole with panoramic Mountain and valley views.
Noisy crowds, nosy neighbours and traffic jams are not things Mr J has ever had to worry about at his finca in the Benissa countryside.
Mr J, who lives in London, has owned his Spanish property in Canor near Benissa since 2005. He bought it with his business partner as a holiday home and rental investment.
15 minutes drive inland from the blue flag sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca, Denia, Javea, Moraira & Calpe the way of life at this location couldn’t be more different to the busy tourist resorts that typify much of Spain’s coastline. For nature lovers, walkers and mountain bikers, and anyone looking for a complete switch-off in unspoilt rural surroundings, it’s heaven.
“The property is a modern property designed to look like a traditional Finca style property with 10,000m2 of land, including, 1,000m2 that is fenced around the property. Mr J said, “It’s real Spain, where the locals hardly speak English. Benissa is just five minutes’ drive and has all the amenities you need, including large supermarkets, banks, restaurants, schools and a medical centre. We used to come almost every two months when the property wasn’t rented, when we would book cheap flights to Alicante Airport, 60 minutes away, or Valencia Airport, One-and-a-half hours away. We’ve had some great parties there with friends and family and never had to worry about making too much noise!”
Mr J´s terrace – ideal for peaceful sunsets!
Mr J´s property is also near Denia, Javea and Moraira, which offers excellent water-based activities, such as kayaking, paddle, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, water skiing or jet ski excursions. Scenic Medieval towns such as Javea old town and Denia Castle are perfect places to visit or enjoy a lazy lunch.
Mr J has been very successful in letting the stone finca to holidaymakers and had no trouble finding guests between February and October. “We used to get repeat business,” he said. “We had a lot of European people, who liked the natural, private setting, and it also attracted naturists, walkers and bird-watchers. One of the reasons for purchasing in this area on the Costa Blanca North was the warm winter sun".
Mr J is now looking to sell the finca. It is on the market for just 345,000€. The property is structurally sound with insulated walls, the property IS NOT on the mains grid for electricity, however there is a diesel generator.
Mr J has looked at installing Solar panels, and has a local quote. Gas central heating and water is delivered by tanker and stored in the large water depositio under the pool terrace.
With a bit of attention you could almost be self-sufficient there. It would make a great project for someone who was looking to create their own idyllic bolt-hole, either as a permanent, holiday home, or rental investment.
